There will be a new Lord of the Rings film called The Hunt for Gollum. Aragorn actor Viggo Mortensen reveals whether he would return.
The Lord of the Rings saga will soon be enriched with another film. The Hunt for Gollum revolves around the story of Gollum. Peter Jackson is also on board again as producer.
Andy Serkis will once again play Gollum and this time sit in the director’s chair. The screenplay is by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who wrote the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films together with Jackson.
Aragorn (played by Viggo Mortensen) could also possibly return, as he recently revealed in an interview.

Will he return as Aragorn in The Hunt for Gollum?
What does Mortensen say? In an interview, Viggo Mortensen signaled his willingness to take on the role of Aragorn again, but only under certain conditions. He stressed that he would only accept the role if the story and his age allowed it:
I don’t know the story exactly, I haven’t heard of it. Maybe I’ll find out someday. I like playing this character. I learned a lot from it. I had a lot of fun. I would only do it if I was suitable for it in terms of my age etc. It would be stupid to do it any other way.

What is the problem? More than 20 years have passed since the conclusion of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Viggo Mortenson was in his early 40s in the films – today he is 65 years old. This is obviously a problem, even though he and probably almost all fans would like to see him return.
The Hunt for Gollum is set roughly parallel to the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring – probably between Bilbo’s birthday and Frodo’s departure for Rivendell.
Aragorn is a central character in JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. He is originally introduced as a mysterious Ranger from the North who was known by many names, including Strider and Estel. His true parentage was known only to a few.
In truth, he is the rightful heir to the throne of Gondor and a descendant of Isildur. As the story progresses, Aragorn proves himself to be a brave and wise leader. Viggo Mortensen’s portrayal has undoubtedly made him a fan favorite.
What time does the movie start? An exact release date for The Hunt for Gollum has not yet been announced. The Gollum film is set to hit theaters in 2026 – probably around Christmas again.
