According to European police, this is “the largest operation ever carried out” against malware. Four people were arrested and more than a hundred servers taken offline during this international operation called “Endgame”. The target of this joint operation between several countries including France: six families of malware used by cybercriminals.

Their little names? “Bumblebee”, “System BC” or even “IceID”. In total, six malicious computer programs used all over the world. Thanks to them, cybercriminals can, for example, infiltrate the systems, those of a company or a hospital, in order to infect them. Cybercriminals thus encrypt their target’s data by demanding a ransom in exchange for the key which allows them to recover the decryption data.

According to the French prosecutor’s office, complaints for this type of crime increased by 30% between 2022 and 2023. By coordinating, the French, German, Dutch and American police also arrested four people. Among these, three were spotted thanks to investigators from the French Judicial Police. One of the suspects was operating fromUkraine. Another in Armenia. Computer equipment, money, cryptocurrencies, searches and seizures were also carried out, all within a very short period of time, three days.

The “Endgame” police operation also made it possible to dismantle an entire infrastructure network, around a hundred servers around the world used for malicious purposes and very often at the hands of their owners, thousands of Internet users including server has been used for malicious purposes and the police will now alert them so that they can take the necessary security measures.
