Mayhem, an all-day music event scheduled for Saturday, June 1, has been canceled.

The licensed event at Simcoe Composite School was to feature a youth showcase followed by eight bands.

“Ticketscene has reimbursed those who purchased tickets in advance,” said Dave Kent, general manager of 3 and 24 Entertainment, who was presenting the event.

Kent declined to comment further on the reasons for the cancellation.

Mayhem was to be a fundraising event for 3 and 24 Entertainment, a non-profit organization that was looking to stage a larger event at the SCS Lions Auditorium in the fall.

Simcoe musician Hannah Dolson is a member of a band called The Echelon that was part of the lineup at Mayhem.

“I was disappointed obviously, and frustrated,” said Dolson. “The band was super upset.”

She said she feels bad for the youth bands that were to be playing, including Pheromone Soup, a newer band with teenaged members that is just starting out.

“This was going to be big gig for them. They’re just in their teens, and I was excited for them to have that.”

Dolson said she felt that many planning to attend were going to purchase tickets at the door. Tickets to Mayhem were priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

“I think the pre-sales did not match the funds that needed to be met, and I think that was the hesitancy of putting on the event,” she observed. “It’s sad. I had lots of family coming and they were all buying tickets at the door.”
