The price of summer cottages has gone up by 90 percent

The price of summer cottages has risen by around 90 percent in the last ten years, according to Smart.
In Stockholm, the average summer cottage has become almost 1.5 million more expensive.
– I think we will see a waiting housing market when it comes to holiday homes for quite a long time to come, says Ola Söderlind, communications manager at Zmarta.

The price of summer cottages has increased the most in Gotland, where prices have risen by 105 percent in the last ten years.

Second on the list are the summer cottages in Gävleborg County, followed by those in Jönköping County. There, prices have been raised by 104 and 103 percent, respectively.

In Stockholm, the average summer cottage has increased in price by almost SEK 1.5 million.

Claes Nygren bought his cottage in Norrtälje for around SEK 225,000 in the late 90s.

– There were other prices at the time. Now we have rebuilt it so it didn’t look like this then. It might be worth 3-4 million in today’s situation, he says.

Track pending market

Ola Söderlind is communications manager at Zmarta, who produced the figures.

– It has been a good investment for those who bought ten years ago, he says.

What do you see happening in the coming years?

– I think we will see a waiting housing market when they come to holiday homes for quite a long time to come, perhaps for one to two years. And then we’ll see, it depends on the interest rate and whether people can keep their jobs.

Will keep the cottage

Claes Nygren and his family have no plans to sell the cottage in Norrtälje.

– It will never be sold, he says and concludes:

– We will keep it, it must be included. It is something that the children will eventually take over.
