For the seventh year in a row, Finland was able to claim the title of the world’s happiest country, according to World Happiness Report 2024.

Older people are happier than young people
But if you only look at men and women of retirement age, the figure is something else. For the first time this year, it has World Happiness Report 2024 also divided the population in each country according to different age categories, in order to measure the happiness and well-being of different age groups.
And then you can see that Finland’s pensioners are not the happiest in the world, where another country leads. In many, but not all regions, younger people are happier than older people, the report shows.
In Sweden, Norway, Germany, France, Spain and Great Britain, the elderly are happier than the young, shows the report.

The world’s happiest pensioners live here
The country with the happiest pensioners is Denmark.
Danes’ life expectancy has increased significantly since the 1950s and in the next 30 years, a Danish woman is expected to live an average of 87 years and a man an average of 85 years, which is a faster development than in the rest of the world.

Then you retire in Denmark
Retirement age in Denmark is around 65 years old. According to a study by Nordic Welfare Centre, which collected data between 2003 and 2020, 61 percent of Danes between the ages of 65 and 74 stated that they are satisfied with their health.
The country with the second happiest pensioners is Finland.
