The drama surrounding Yellowstone is now almost more exciting than the series itself. After Kevin Costner left the popular neo-western to focus on his cinematic epic Horizon, series mastermind Taylor Sheridan made big plans without the John Dutton actor. However, the planned sequel series has hardly made any better headlines in recent months.
Not only are the two Costner replacement candidates Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer not yet signed on for the sequel, but the other series stars around Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes to leave because of failed salary negotiations. But now there is a happy update for all Yellowstone fans – because there are now a few official names on the cast list.
Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes to return for Yellowstone sequel
As the reliable industry insider Puck reports (via Collider ), Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes are said to have negotiated their deals for the Yellowstone sequel. Rip Wheeler, Beth Dutton and Kayce Dutton return in the sequel series.

Puck previously reported that Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly each made a whopping $1.25 million per episode demanded, which recently dragged out the fee negotiations. It is not yet known whether the two Western stars will actually receive these sums or which of the two sides had to make compromises.
In contrast, negotiations with Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer are still ongoing. According to Puck, it depends on the two stars “creative direction”that the sequel series is supposed to take.
When is the Yellowstone sequel coming out?
Since the cast of the sequel series is still not completely set, it will be quite a while before we can expect the Yellowstone sequel to start. Before that, however, part 2 of the 5th season of Yellowstone will be released and bring the main series to an official conclusion. November 2024 the time has finally come.
