You no longer need to be an image editing expert to remove unwanted elements from a photo! This free application makes it very easy to do in just a few clicks.
When we take a lot of photos, there are often unwanted elements that spoil our shots, like strangers passing through the frame or an unsightly detail that we didn’t notice when the photo was taken. To correct this type of imperfection, it was previously necessary to use image editing software, sometimes paying and often difficult to master. The manipulation was more or less complex and required a lot of time and experience to achieve a suitable result.
In recent years, much more practical and accessible solutions have appeared to allow everyone to edit their photos in the blink of an eye, such as the famous Magic Eraser on Google Pixel phones. With the democratization of artificial intelligence tools, there are now many easy-to-use online services to edit your photos like a pro, and there is even a free function integrated directly into Windows to do it!
This magical tool is found in the Windows Photos application and is simply called “Generative Erase”. You can access it when you open a file with Photos and click the button Edit image in the top toolbar. Generative erasing uses machine learning, an artificial intelligence technique, to remove selected elements from the image and replace them with what should be behind them.
The Generative Erase tool is very easy to use and does not require any special skills, as you simply scan the areas of the image to be replaced with the mouse, like a paintbrush. The processing usually takes place in a few seconds, and does not even require an Internet connection, because the operation is carried out locally by your computer. The final result is not always perfect, especially in photos with a lot of detail, as you can see in the illustration above.
But the results are still quite impressive for a free function, integrated into a basic Windows application and which works locally even on less powerful PCs! A very practical little tool, which can help you quickly and easily modify photos from your last vacation or selfies from your last lunch in your favorite restaurant.
