The deadly attack in Rafah was a tragic mistake

At least 45 people were killed in Sunday’s attack in Rafah. Now Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the attack was a “tragic mistake”, writes AFP.

“In Rafah, we evacuated one million residents who were not involved, and despite our best efforts, a tragic mistake occurred yesterday,” he said in a statement.

The government is now being asked to investigate the incident.

The victims were in an area where Palestinians had fled and, according to the Red Crescent, Israel had designated the area as a “humanitarian area”.

The attack took place two days after the International Court of Justice in The Hague, ICJ, ordered Israel to immediately cease its hostilities in Rafah.
