Fire safety during grilling times: “Important”
However, the risk of fire is always something you should be aware of when grilling. Nyheter24 has spoken to Björn Westerdahlcommunications manager for Greater Stockholm’s fire service, on how to grill in the safest way.
– If you grill in your own garden, we recommend that you use a grill that is raised off the ground. The grill should not have direct contact with the ground, says Westerdahl.

It also turns out to be important to keep an eye on if something falls from the grill and onto the ground below.
– It is also important that you have a fireproof surface under the grill, which can consist of gravel or tiles. This is in case glowing coal falls to the ground, says Westerdahl and continues:
– If coal or other combustible material falls onto the ground, it is important to ensure that it does not spread further.

You should not use this type of grill: “Flammable”
For those who are going to grill, it is important to be well prepared. Björn Westerdahl thinks that putting out buckets of water in advance is a good idea.
– You must always be prepared to extinguish with a lot of water. You can either be prepared with water in buckets or a water hose.
As many seasoned grill masters are sure to know, the type of grill is of great importance. Greater Stockholm’s fire service is clear that one type of grill should not be used.
– We always recommend that you avoid disposable grills because they are flammable.
Westerdahl concludes with a final piece of advice:
– When you have finished grilling, you should drown the fire with a lot of water.
