You can find out what allegations are being made here.

“They didn’t understand that at ZDF”: Thomas Gottschalk is angry about the botched ending of the cult show

It has been half a year since Thomas Gottschalk sent the former cult show Wetten, dass..? to the grave with an extremely disappointing last edition. The painful TV moment is especially for his Embarrassment Guarantee Gottschalk must not have missed the fact that there were negative headlines. He now admits in a podcast with Mike Krüger that he would have liked a different ending for the show.

As Bunte quotes, the Supernasen came to the topic in a roundabout way. First they talked about Mario Barth, at whose Arena show Mike Krüger performed his famous comedy songs. Gottschalk was so touched by the reaction of the audience present that he would have wanted something similar for the Wetten, dass..? finale:

When you added ‘Bodo with the excavator’ to the end of ‘Nippel’ and people were so excited… I said to Karina: ‘That would have been the right ending for Wetten, dass..?’

The 74-year-old presenter clearly states that he would have preferred a different ending to the show. What he thinks was lacking becomes clear later.

“Eye level is important for the audience and you were at eye level with the people”says Gottschalk to Krüger. If it were up to him, ZDF’s choice of guests would have missed this. He complains that it makes no sense to invite Lady Gaga when you have Mike Krüger. “They at ZDF didn’t understand that”said the moderator.

“That’s how editors are today”: Mike Krüger is disappointed with the Wetten, dass..? team

Mike Krüger is also dissatisfied with the Wetten, dass..? finale. He actually wanted to drive into the studio with an excavator to perform his farewell song, but the production team forbade him from doing so because he didn’t have a driver’s license.

But the song selection was also controlled by the editors. Krüger actually had his classic Bodo with the excavator wanted to play, but the ZDF team decided to play the Beatles instead. His criticism simply bounced off:

I asked: ‘Have you discussed this with Thomas?’ But then it became quiet… In any case, that wasn’t my idea.

“This is what editors are like today”Krüger criticizes those responsible. “And they often work past the audience.”
