At the moment, he is chasing his very first gold medal with Sweden.

The 2024 Hockey World Cup is in full swing and two Swedes who have come into great focus are Erik Karlsson and Peter Forsberg. The former as Tre Kronor’s team captain and great leader on the ice in the pursuit of a WC gold.
Karlsson misses
Karlsson is one of the world’s very best hockey defenders and a big star in the NHL with his fantastic talent and lovely personality. This is the first time he has donned the blue-and-yellow national team jersey since 2016, and therefore he has missed a lot of Swedish hockey’s successes.

“The world’s best Karlsson” has been fantastic in North America for many years, but in order to become really popular at home in Sweden, medals of the nobler kind are required in major championships. And there, the 33-year-old star defender lacks a gold medal with Three Crowns in the prize cabinet.
The words about Foppa
Forsberg, on the other hand, has won most of what can be won both in North America and in the national team context. “Foppa” won his first Olympic gold already as a 20-year-old and in total has won double Olympic gold and WC gold in a blue-yellow suit.

Right now, the icon is working as a TV expert for Viaplay during the hockey World Cup and has been praised for his efforts in the TV box. Erik Karlsson is also full of admiration when he talks about Forsberg’s importance and admits what he really thinks of the legend.
– He has had a great impact on the development of Swedish hockey players. Then it’s not just here in Sweden but also in the NHL, Karlsson said already in 2017 during the “NHL Series” in Stockholm.
– He came over and established himself as one of the best players in the league. He is someone people look up to here in Sweden after everything he has done for the national team with the medals and goals he scored.

Erik has grown up with Peter Forsberg as a big idol and it meant a lot to him to meet “Foppa” during the NHL event in Stockholm that year, when both were present at the Globe.
– It is fun to see that he is part of everything that is going on here and with us who are here. Having him here, having seen him play growing up, means a lot. Even for the fans, it’s fun to see him around here and be a part of this, Karlsson said then.
