The end after 69 episodes hits Western fans particularly hard

A different wind has been blowing at the US broadcaster The CW for some time now. At that time, the company was still the contact point for the formats of the DC Arrowverse and other genre series, but since it was taken over by the company, it has focused primarily on sports and shows. Only a few script-based formats remain for the network as legacy issues that had to be grudgingly financed, which partly explains the decision regarding the Western series Walker.

The reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger with Supernatural star Jared Padalecki seems to have finally reached the end of its ride. Even though it is the network’s most-watched series.

Out for Yellowstone Western competition Walker

According to Deadline, they began dismantling the Walker sets shortly before the official cancellation announcement. Which led to dissatisfaction among the cast and crew, who probably expected to film a fifth season.

So the 4th season finale, which will air on June 26, 2024, has to serve as the series finale. Whether it turns out reasonably well, or ends on a massive cliffhanger, remains to be seen. In any case, the spin-off Walker: Independence had to believe in it much earlier. Walker fans really don’t have it easy.

The sad news for Walker fans was delivered by series star Padalecki himself:

They are certainly sdifficult news to digest, but we are very grateful for what the Walker family has built, both on and off the set. After four seasons together, we have felt the love and support of the entire Walker family and will be forever grateful. […] I will forever smile at the years I spent with the cast and crew, the studio, the network and the fandom that made this possible.

In 2025, Paladecki would have been at The CW for 20 consecutive years, where he started in the supernatural adventure series Supernatural in 2005. What’s left for the redesigned US network is Superman & Lois (which is also coming to an end) and the two football series All American and All American: Homecoming.
