The last time Van de Zandschulp had to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament through the qualifications was at the 2021 US Open. After three victories in the qualifications, he reached the quarter-finals, where he lost to the Russian Daniil Medvedev. Partly because of these good performances, he was then assured of a place in the main schedule of the Grand Slam tournaments as a player in the top 100. At Wimbledon, he reached the main draw more than a month earlier in 2021 through the qualifications and then reached the second round, where he lost to ninth-seeded Italian Matteo Berrettini.
