The ministry plans to unilaterally change the sea border between Finland and Lithuania. According to the ministry, the current policies do not correspond to the current geographical conditions.
MOSCOW Russian state news agency Tassa financial newspaper RBK and The Moscow Times magazine write that the Russian Ministry of Defense is proposing to the government the transfer of maritime borders in the Baltic Sea.
The changes would concern the sea borders against Finland and Lithuania.

According to it, the project is scheduled to be completed by January next year. The document does not seem to have an explanatory map appendix.
Russia intends to change the border lines in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, south of the Russian islands, and near the cities of Baltijsk and Zelenogradsk in the Kaliningrad region.
The borders are to be changed, for example, off the islands of Suursaari, Somer, Ruuskeri, Pien-Tytärsaari, i.e. Säyvö and Vigrund.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the list of points from which the extent of the water area is calculated, confirmed by the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union in January 1985, no longer corresponds to the current geographical conditions.
The ministry states that the geographic points were calculated using small-scale nautical charts based on data from the mid-20th century.
It is still unclear what Russia’s intentions mean in practice.
The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ communication on-call said that the matter will be commented on during office hours.
