Singer Taylor Swift’s world tour brought together 180,000 people in France, during four concerts held in Paris on May 9, 10, 11 and 12. Since then, many fans have fallen ill as gatherings have turned into giant clusters. How can you protect yourself during the upcoming festivals this summer? Update with Dr. Gérald Kierzek, emergency physician and medical director of Doctissimo.
American star Taylor Swift’s world tour stopped in Paris for four dates and brought together around 180,000 people during these concerts. These French fans, delighted to attend the singer’s stage performance, some of them paid the price for this event, by falling ill, certainly contaminated by Covid-19.
Internet users testify about their condition, after the concert
On social networks, many Internet users explain that they fell ill after the concert, with “coughing fits” and “horrible headaches”. The gathering of people eventually grew into a giant cluster. “Indeed, many testimonies report a flu syndrome contracted after Taylor Swift’s concerts. confirms Gérald Kierzek, emergency doctor and medical director of Doctissimo.
“So Covid or not, we don’t know because not all people have been tested, but this shows that the different viruses are circulating and that this type of gathering promotes viral circulation”. Indeed, during a concert, people sing, shout, are very close… “So many factors facilitating contamination, for Covid therefore, but also for other viruses” says our expert.
People who plan to attend gatherings this summer, such as the festivals which are held each year in certain cities in France, may wonder about their protection against the virus this summer.
“We must reassure everyone: we are not going to put back masks or restore distance between individuals” immediately recalls Gérald Kierzek. “Covid-19 is now an endemic virus, with reduced virulence, which we also know better… For the general public, there is no risk, especially since the festivals are held indoors. outside”.
And for the most vulnerable? The doctor always recommends vaccination and wearing only one type of truly protective mask: the FFP2.
