“It feels more and more like…”

Maja Dahlqvist did not have the best year.
Now she opens up about what really went wrong.

it feels like the body is getting more and more on the track, she tells SVT.

Maja Dahlqvist is now a veteran in the Swedish national ski team, having made her debut in the World Cup back in 2014. In the absence of star Linn Svahn, she won the overall Sprint Cup in both 2022 and 2023, but 2024 was not at all what she had hoped for.

Honest words about weak winter

Dahlqvist had a leaden start to the season and before the new year she had not taken a single podium place. Dahlqvist was at a loss as to why the form was suddenly gone, but during the second half of the season Dahlqvist looked better. She finished the season with three individual podiums, as well as a relay podium, but overall it was a season that does not at all rhyme with her goal pictures.

But after several tests, it has now emerged that there is nothing wrong with Dahlqvist’s body. Instead, she has another theory.

– I have checked everything that I myself think it could have been and there has been nothing wrong. So it’s rather some type of overtraining that went on for a very long time, says Dahlqvist to SVT.

Changes the layout completely

During the spring, Dahlqvist managed to move to Trondheim with her boyfriend Kevin Bolger, also a cross-country skier. Last week she was in Östersund for tests with the national team, and then she received positive news.

– It will be fine. Last fall there was a slump, but it feels like the body is getting on the track more and more. Now I’ve had a very quiet spring, so there were no record tests right away, says Dahlqvist.

Maja Dahlqvist is also making major changes in training ahead of the coming season. Last winter she wanted to get better at distance, but now her sights are set only on sprints, considering the WC that awaits in Trondheim, Maja Dahlqvist’s new hometown.

– Last year I went a little more to be all-round, but this year it is a WC sprint that is at the top and it is a skate sprint. So it’s going to be more niche towards that.
