The tone among the government parties regarding SD’s anonymous accounts has been turned down.
However, it may mean a heightened tone within the Tidö parties for fear of an extended conflict.
– Whoever tries to run the rope here risks starting a government crisis, says political scientist Jonas Hinnfors.
TV4’s Cold Facts’ second program about the Sweden Democrats’ anonymous accounts on social media has characterized the political debate since Tuesday.
Other parliamentary parties, both cooperation parties and those in opposition, were initially harsh in their rhetoric. The governing parties had a crisis meeting and SD apologized and shut down around 40 accounts that violated the “courtesy clause” of the Tidö agreement.
The Liberals proposed on Friday that it should be prohibited for parties to spread messages anonymously.
Three days later, L and the other Tidöpartier’s tone is not as sharp. The parties in the Riksdag have not agreed on further measures against SD and L have not been heard about the establishment of a joint code of conduct.
Difficult silence
The political scientist Jonas Hinnfors, working at the University of Gothenburg, believes that the silence on the outside may mean that it is all the louder within, for example, the Liberals, but that everyone has decided to put the lid on to sort things out.
– Or it is on a more manageable level, but that you want to put the lid on. You don’t want anyone to say anything to make it even worse.
The parties in the Riksdag are in the middle of the election campaign ahead of the EU elections in early June. Hinnfors does not think that the election is coming soon is decisive for the tone to have calmed down among the governing parties and SD’s anonymous accounts.
Doesn’t tend to influence voters
– With conflicts like this, you know that it rarely happens that much with the voters directly in each case, it is impossible to prove it, he says.
Hinnfors rather believes that an explanation for the stagnated tone and level of conflict may be the government issue.
– Whoever is on the government’s supporting side who tries to run the rope out here risks bringing about or starting a government crisis, if it is to be taken to the extreme. It is an incredibly important aspect for all parties to take into account.
