Served as head coach of the Finnish ski jumping national team since spring 2023 Lauri Hakola will not continue in the upcoming season.

Hill jumping and combined event leader Mika Kojonkoski according to Hakola informed the management of the Ski Association that he is not available for the task due to personal reasons.

– Lauri has made his own decision, which is related to his personal world and human reasons. So he can’t continue, Kojonkoski said.

According to Urheilu, Hakola’s successor is a Slovenian ex-jumper Igor Medved. The 42-year-old Medved competed in the World Cup between 2001 and 2003 and finished three times in the top ten in individual competitions.

Kojonkoski confirmed the negotiations with Medved, but according to him, there are no names on the head coach papers yet.

– We are working on the matter very strongly, but the matter is not ready, Kojonkoski said.

Urheilu reached out to Medved, who confirmed the contract negotiations. He neither admitted nor denied that he was the next head coach of the Finnish A national team.

– I’d rather say it like this, that the Ski Federation informs about the matter, Medved was content to comment.
