One of the biggest criticisms of the Star Wars projects of the past few years was that they… too much based on the original trilogy have. It wasn’t just the time period that played a crucial role: many characters and stories from the first Star Wars era were also picked up again and again, expanded and continued.
With The Acolyte, however, we can now expect a Star Wars series that takes us to a time that we have never seen before in live-action form: the High Republic. This era has already been introduced to a large readership of Star Wars fans through numerous books and comics. Now the jump to Disney+ follows.
With Lightsaber Whip: The Acolyte brings Vernestra Rwoh to the Star Wars universe on Disney+
Fans of the printed stories from the High Republic have one character in particular to look forward to in The Acolyte: Vernestra “Vern” Rwoh. The former Padawan has now become a Jedi Master and brings with her her distinctive trademark: a purple lightsaber that can transform into a whip. We have never seen anything like this in any Star Wars film or series.

The acid test (original: A Test of Courage) by Justina Ireland is the best-known and most popular Vernestra story to date. Now we can be curious to see what facets The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland will add to the character in the series. Vernestra is played by Canadian actress Rebecca Henderson, who previously appeared in series such as Matryoshka, Inventing Anna and Westworld.
