Ghor province police spokesman Abdul Rahman Badri, in his statement, stated that at least 50 people lost their lives in the flood caused by heavy rains in the province in the last 24 hours, and that the death toll is expected to increase. Spokesperson Badri said, “These terrible floods also killed thousands of cattle. They destroyed hundreds of hectares of agricultural land, hundreds of bridges and culverts, and thousands of trees.”
Ghor Governor Spokesperson Abdul Wahid Hamas stated that according to initial information, dozens of people were missing. Ghor Information Department Head Mawlawi Abdul Hai Zaeem also stated that the recent rains started on Friday and many roads leading to the region were flooded and closed to traffic. Zaeem said that in Firoz Koh, the center of the province, 2 thousand houses were completely destroyed, 4 thousand houses were partially damaged and more than 2 thousand shops were flooded.
