Prime Minister Fico who was subjected to an assassination attempt

Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was injured in an armed attack, underwent surgery for the second time today, following his first surgery on May 15.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kalinak and Roosevelt Hospital Director Miriam Lapunikova, where Fico was treated, gave information about the Prime Minister’s current condition at the press conference they held.

Hospital Director Lapunikova stated that Fico underwent a second surgery today after the first surgery, and the dead cells and tissues remaining in the injured area after gunshot wounds were cleaned.

Noting that this is a standard procedure, Lapunikova said, “He is conscious, his condition is stable, but he is still kept in intensive care. His condition is extremely serious.” she said.

Lapunikova stated that a delegation formed at the hospital evaluates the Prime Minister’s health condition every day and acts accordingly, and that the delegation also discussed whether Fico should be transferred from the hospital where he is to the capital Bratislava.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kalinak also noted that the first 4 days are the most difficult period in gun injuries and that such checks are carried out regularly.

Kalinak stated that offers of medical aid were forwarded to them from many countries and said, “We all, including the Prime Minister, have full confidence in the capacity of Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica. The team is extremely professional.” he said.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Fico was attacked while he was greeting those waiting in front of the building after the Council of Ministers Meeting held in the town of Handlova, approximately 200 kilometers away from the capital Bratislava.

It was stated in the country’s press that Juraj C, a 71-year-old left-wing Slovak citizen, organized the attack because he did not like the government’s policies.

Fico, who was hit by more than one bullet in his body, was sent by ambulance helicopter to Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica province in order to provide urgent intervention and not to waste time. (AA)This content was published by Hazar Saygın.
