Only every third Swede uses the right protection against the sun

Only every third Swede uses the right protection against the sun. This is shown by a new Novus survey commissioned by the Swedish Medicines Agency. According to the authority, it is a “bad idea” not to protect oneself from the sun’s rays.
– It is worrying that so many people forget to protect themselves optimally in the sun, says Sofia Bodare, investigator at the Medical Products Agency.

When summer has finally arrived in Sweden after a long winter, many people now take the opportunity to be outdoors to enjoy the sun. But many Swedes protect themselves incorrectly against the rays, or not at all. This is shown by a new Novus survey commissioned by the Swedish Medicines Agency.

According to the survey, only every third Swede uses the correct protection against the sun’s rays, and one in ten does not protect himself at all.

But sunny Uppsala residents that TV4 Nyheterna spoke to still think that we must take the opportunity to enjoy ourselves after the long winter.

– You have to sunbathe, this is what you long for, says Uppsala resident Britt-Marie Emmadotter to TV4 Nyheterna.

The Swedish Medicines Agency: “Worrying”

According to the Swedish Medicines Agency, many people have learned to lubricate themselves, but do not use enough and forget to top up during the day.

– It is worrying that so many forget to protect themselves optimally in the sun. The very best way is to use clothing and shade and to supplement with sun protection products on parts where needed, says Sofia Bodare, investigator at the Medical Products Agency.

When asked why she thinks we are so bad at protecting ourselves from the sun, she replies:

– I think we probably forget that you need to protect yourself at home in Sweden too. You associate sunscreen with something you do abroad, says Sofia Bodare.
