New MMOs and multiplayer games 2024: The big release list

MeinMMO gives you an overview of all new online games that will be released in 2024 and are relevant to us. These include co-op games, MMOs and MMORPGs. It doesn’t matter whether these games are released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S or Switch.

Which games can you find in the list? There are only games in the list that the developers themselves have announced will be released in 2024. We have also included major expansions that are particularly relevant for MMORPGs.

Numerous extensions for various online games

In addition to the releases, some expansions and new content are coming to you in 2024. And it’s going to be a great year, especially for MMORPG fans. There will be new content for Lost Ark every month from January to April, while Black Desert will receive the second part of the update. And as far as Final Fantasy XIV is concerned, all that is known so far is that the new expansion “Dawntrail” will be released in summer 2024.

The Elder Scrolls Online will get the new Gold Road expansion for PC on June 3, 2024. New story content, 3 new areas and the scripture feature await you there. The DLC will be released for PlayStation and Xbox on June 18, 2024.

On June 3rd, Destiny 2 will receive “The Final Form,” the final DLC in the Light and Darkness saga, which will be released on all platforms. The DLC is intended to be the toughest challenge a player can face in Destiny 2.

A new expansion could also come for Guild Wars 2, as 3 more updates are planned for the current add-on Secrets of the Obscure, which was released in summer 2023, and everything indicates that the next expansion will be released in summer/autumn 2024 . However, there are no exact details yet.

And there will also be a new expansion for The Lord of the Rings Online. An unspecified add-on is scheduled to appear in fall 2024, bringing 4 new regions, an instance group and a raid.

The next expansion for World of Warcraft called “The War Within” is coming this year and was announced at BlizzCon 2023. In the expansion, the heroes travel into the depths of Azeroth and visit new and familiar races. Our editor Karsten Scholz has already reported on his first impressions of the Alpha.

The Vessel of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4 is also scheduled to appear at the end of 2024, including a new region and a new class that should be close to nature, i.e. suitable for the upcoming jungle setting.

A few titles are leftovers from 2023

For very few titles on our list a specific release date has been set, for others the planned release has already been postponed from 2023 to 2024:

  • Blue Protocol, Throne and Liberty and Odin: Valhalla Rising were the 3 MMORPGs you were most looking forward to in 2023. However, all 3 have been postponed and are expected to come in 2024.
  • The Division Heartland is supposed to be a mix of extraction shooter and survival game – here too, the release was already planned for 2023. Development has since been halted to shift resources to other “bigger opportunities.”
  • Skull & Bones was first announced in 2016 and was supposed to be released in 2022, but nothing came of it. The planned release in March 2023 could not be adhered to either. This made the community doubt whether it should even appear. Ubisoft justified the hefty price of 79.99 euros for the console version by saying that Skull and Bones would be a “AAAA” title. The game received mixed reviews and wasn’t well received by players either.
  • For XDefiant, there have already been several dates on which the multiplayer shooter was actually supposed to appear since playtests started in summer 2023. The release was most recently scheduled for the end of September or mid-October 2023. There is now a fixed date for the release: the shooter comes on May 21st.

    • If all of these games come out this year, it could still offer an appealing mix of co-op, multiplayer, survival and MMORPGs.
