Books or screens – that’s how different the children’s school day is: “Almost every lesson”

The students at Trädgårdsstadens school in Skövde get reading tablets in preschool class and use screens in almost all subjects. At Malmaskolan in Kolsva, the computers are locked in a cupboard, and the children write by hand most of the time.

– All students must be able to write an essay on a computer without any problems, but they must also be able to use paper, pencil and eraser, says Johan Hallberg, principal at Malmaskolan.

Several children that Lilla Aktuellt talks to think there are advantages to books, but others like to work on school assignments on a screen.

– Computer is more flexible. You don’t have to write by hand, says Einar Lans, 10 years old.

Isn’t it early to get an ipad in preschool class?

– The most important thing is the teaching and the quality of it. Then I think it’s good that the students learn about the digital world, because we live in it, says Monica Carlgren, principal at Trädgårdsstadens school in Skövde.
