Athletics: Julia Henriksson three hundredths from the Swedish record in the 100 meters

In 1980, Linda Haglund set a Swedish record for 100 meters by running in a time of 11.16.

Yesterday, 23-year-old Julia Henriksson came close to beating it.

During the outdoor premiere in Vari, Greece, the Swede won with a winning time of 11.19, which meant lowering her personal record by 18 hundredths.

– I got off to a good start and the start itself is something I’ve been training a lot on lately. After half the race I felt I was on G and just tried to keep running the whole way. In the end I won by 4 thousandths ahead of the runner-up, says Henriksson to the Swedish Athletics Federation’s website.

Personal best in 200 meters

The 23-year-old is now the second fastest Swede of all time at 100 meters.

– It was the first competition, a dream start to the season, she says.

Before the 100-meter race, Henriksson also hit a personal record in the 200 meters (23.12).

– I feel that it can be a really fun summer for me.
