The new notification reached the County Administrative Board at the end of February 2024. The notifier then told that there was a smell of death, urine and feces from the woman’s apartment.
In the report, it also appears that the neighbors woke up at night due to the sounds of the squeaking hamsters.
Now the woman speaks out about the accusations:
– What is written in the report is not correct, she tells Hem & Hyra.
Here is the animal you are NOT allowed to have in your apartment – can result in a fine
Convicted of animal welfare offences
It is not the first time that the woman has been criticized for her pets. It all started in 2021, when the first notification of the rodents took place.
Li Ekblom, animal welfare officer at the County Administrative Board, then visited the apartment to see if there was any truth in the complaints. What she was met with, she could not have imagined.
– I have never seen so many animals in one apartment. The whole living room was full of buckets of hamsters up to the ceiling, there was no room for a couch or anything else. There were corridors in the apartment, it was so crowded in several places, she says Home & Rent.
Several of the cages were under the sink, where it was completely dark. In the apartment there was also a big dog and a turtle that lived on the balcony.
During Ekblom’s inspection, it became clear that the woman, together with her partner, sold hamsters without having a permit for the business.
Although the woman denied the charges, she was sentenced in February 2024 and had to pay a total of SEK 2,500 in fines in the aftermath. Her husband, on the other hand, stayed away from the trial and was therefore never convicted.
He is still being chased by the police.

“I’ve never seen so many animals in an apartment,” says animal welfare officer Li Ekblom to Hem & Hyra. Photo: Länsstyrelsen. The woman is reported again after the verdict
Just 26 days after the woman was convicted of animal welfare crimes, she was reported again.
Animal welfare officer Li Ekblom tells Hem & Hyra that she is not surprised by the new complaints, as it is not the first time that the County Administrative Board has a case against the woman.
Then it was about horses, pigeons, chickens, cats, rabbits and a dog.
When Hem & hyra gets in touch with the woman after the new notification, she is clear that the criticism is unwarranted. According to her, the complainant wants to arouse distrust towards her.
– What is stated in the report is not correct. We only have four older dwarf hamsters and a dog in the apartment, she says Home & Rent.
The scent should instead come from her toilet. She also does not know where her partner, who is being chased by the police, is.
