The former police chief Mats Löfving died in February last year. Now a person has been served with suspicion of causing the death of another, something like Echo be the first to tell.
– There is pre-trial confidentiality and I cannot therefore provide any further information. It is also not possible to assess how long the investigation will take or whether I will ultimately bring charges, says chief prosecutor Lars Morand, who is the head of the preliminary investigation, in a press release.
Faced harsh criticism
Before his death, Mats Löfving received harsh criticism at a press conference from an investigator who singled him out as a jerk in several decisions. The investigator also recommended to the police that they should consider firing him.
Shortly afterwards, the police reported Löfving’s death to the Work Environment Agency. In December of last year, the authority made a so-called prosecution report, after it found in its review of the case that there may be a causal connection between work environment deficiencies and the police chief’s death.
The suspect denies any wrongdoing
Morand does not want to comment on who the person is or what he suspects this person has done criminally.
