The high costs have primarily two reasons. On the one hand, the infamous Hollywood double strike began a few days after filming began, which caused cost explosions for many multi-million dollar blockbusters. The reason was, among other things, the long time productions had to keep sets and technology available.

On the other hand, like Top Gun 2, Kosinski relies on authentic action. That means, for example, that Brad Pitt and other Hollywood stars actually drove in professional racing cars, which required extensive training and safety protocols.

It remains to be seen whether the entire venture is doomed to failure due to the costs. The film would have to gross between 700 and 900 million in order not to make a loss. But Apple’s producers could have different success criteria than standard cinema studios. About one Secondary publication on the streaming service Apple TV+.

When will Top Gun 2 maker Joseph Kosinski’s Formula 1 film be released?

When Kosinski and Apple will release the film for cinemas and streaming is still unclear. In addition to Pitt, Bardem and Pearce, Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) can be seen in front of the camera.
