On Monday, the public service committee presented the rules for the public service companies’ upcoming license period 2026-2033.
The committee’s chairman Göran Hägglund (KD) handed over the report to Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M).
– It must continue to be broadly formulated and the business must not be regulated in detail, he says.
With regard to the supply of the national minority languages and sign languages, the committee proposes that first publications in each of the national minority languages and sign languages should increase during the license period and that the companies’ combined supply in Finnish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib, Sami and sign languages each year should amount to at least the level reached in 2025.
With regard to Yiddish, however, the majority parties set higher demands and want the supply to increase from the 2025 level.
But the opposition (S, C, MP and V) reserves themselves and directs criticism at the Tidö parties.
“Regarding the level of supply, we believe that the ambitions of the majority have landed too low. Strengthening the supply in Yiddish is an important priority as the supply today is low. However, we see no reason not to set the same requirements for Sami, Meänkieli and Romani Chib. The supply for these languages is still low,” they write.
