While the end of the mask outdoors as well as at work is again the norm, the increase in contaminations which began in France from the beginning of March continues. Two years after the start of the health crisis, our country, which is about to choose its new president, still has to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. The epidemic rebound is growing. The number of people testing positive is growing. Over the past seven days, there have been an average of 128,241 new cases each day, compared to 89,735 seven days earlier. These are the latest figures communicated by Public Health France, Monday, the public establishment listing the statistics around the epidemic.
On Monday, the laboratories recorded 29,455 cases of contamination in 24 hours, against 24,179 a week ago, or around 5,000 more. There have been 565 additional deaths in total over the past week, bringing to 141,821 the number of people who have succumbed to the disease since the emergence of the virus in France. This figure includes all deaths in hospitals, retirement homes or other medico-social establishments.
A rising incidence rate
In this context of epidemic rebound, incidence rates continue to climb across the departments. For the period from March 19 to 25, the national indicator exploded. It is 1,289 patients per 100,000 inhabitants, according to data shared on Monday by health authorities. That’s an increase of more than 43% in one week. The increase in the incidence rate is observable everywhere.
The Côtes-d’Armor have passed for the first time in several weeks the bar of 2,000 contaminations per 100,000 inhabitants. 17 departments place themselves above 1,500 cases. Symbol of this rapid and massive increase, only one department has seen its incidence rate drop over the past seven days. Lot-et-Garonne experienced a decrease of 2.11%. Its rate remains above 1,000 contaminations. A department like Essonne sees its incidence rate double (+ 105.64%) when the cases also jump in Val-d’Oise (+ 94.33%).
Stability in hospital
The situation is stable in health establishments since they housed 21,073 people sick with Covid-19, Monday against 20,606 on Saturday. In 24 hours, 1,694 were hospitalized with Covid-19, and 109 patients were treated in critical care units. A situation which tends to confirm that if the virus is still as contagious, the serious forms seem so far contained.
The resuscitation services, treating the most advanced cases, counted, on Sunday, 1,486 patients within its walls. A constant figure for several days (1,481 on Saturday and 1,642 on average the previous week). An inventory which can be explained in particular by the collective immunity acquired thanks to vaccination. 54.25 million people received at least one injection, or 80.8% of the total population. Almost as many have a complete vaccination schedule (79.5%). Nearly 40 million people opted for a booster dose. The rate of admissions in critical care is very strongly reduced in vaccinated with booster.
