Ex-president Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, will not – as previously announced – step into the political arena this summer. The 18-year-old refrains from participating in the Republican party convention as a Florida delegate, USA Today reports, among others.
“Barron is honored to have been appointed as a delegate by the Republican Party of Florida, but regrettably announces that he is unable to attend due to other commitments,” said a statement from former US first lady Melania Trump.
During the meeting in Milwaukee in July, the party is expected to formally nominate Donald Trump as the Republican candidate for the presidential election in November.
Barron Trump is the only child of the marriage between Donald and Melania Trump. He has largely been kept out of the public eye during his upbringing. But his son’s graduation from high school next Friday has drawn media attention, with Donald Trump complaining that the ongoing trial against him over accounting irregularities and payments to a porn star would prevent him from attending the ceremony in Florida.
The judge has subsequently suspended the proceedings during the examination day. The ex-president has planned for both a celebration of the son and a campaign meeting.
Three of Donald Trump’s five children are part of Florida’s delegation to the July 15-18 convention, according to the AP.
