The long weekend looks to be warm and lovely.

Until next week, we can expect up to 20–25 degrees even in the north.

– Now we are on the move and we will see the meteorological summer spread quickly, says Lasse Rydqvist, meteorologist at Klart.

The beginning of May has been a little colder than usual in the eastern parts of Norrland and in easternmost Svealand.

Strong winds and light winds have made it feel cold for May, and many are certainly longing to take off their lined jackets.

The forecast shows that that wish will probably soon be fulfilled.

– It looks promising for next week. At first it looked like it would continue with cold temperatures, but then the forecast changed abruptly and now it looks like we will actually have the first week of early summer, says Lasse Rydqvist.

During Tuesday and Wednesday, an extensive low pressure forms off the east coast of the USA and takes a northern path towards Iceland, which means proper heat for us, according to Lasse Rydqvist.

Warm even in the north – snow melting

At the same time, a high pressure is growing in from the British Isles and already on Sunday warm air is traveling over the country. The temperature is looking up towards 20 degrees and next week it will rise further.

– Even in Norrland, we can count on warmer weather. It can be up to 20-25 degrees. So you can really say that we are on the move now and in the right direction. We will see the meterological summer spread quickly.

The remaining snow may begin to melt to a large extent over the next week, possibly leading to high flows in the north.

– They had some problems in Tornedalen last year and you can understand if they are a little concerned about whether there would be a repeat this year. There has been some flagging that the spring flood could cause it this year as well. But they are perhaps a little more prepared.

Setback or not?

According to Lasse Rydqvist, however, we cannot be completely sure that there will not be a setback in terms of weather in the northern parts of the country.

But in the southern parts of the country, you don’t have to worry as much about setbacks. Above all, it will continue to be warm in southwestern Sweden.

– It will be considerably warmer and there is a drastic difference from how it looked last week. All of Sweden will see an early summer, says Lasse Rydqvist.
