At least 62 people have died in connection with floods in northern Afghanistan during Friday.
According to local authorities in Baghlan province, the floods were caused by heavy seasonal rain, which came very suddenly. The rain has continued to fall and the death toll is expected to rise.
During the day, rescue personnel searched for possible victims in the mud and debris that followed the floods. Among the dead are mainly women and children, according to Afghan government personnel.
Since mid-April, around 100 people have died as a result of floods that affected several of the country’s provinces.
