Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, calls on EU member states to really provide the support promised to Ukraine.
The move was made during Metsola’s visit to Kiev on Thursday, on the day that is also the EU countries’ official Europe Day. In a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Metsola praised the European efforts to support Ukraine, but added that more is needed:
– We are painfully aware that Ukraine urgently needs more materiel and air defense systems. We Europeans must deliver, we must take responsibility, we must intensify our support, said Metsola, who is from Malta.
EU member states agreed on Wednesday to use large sums of seized Russian assets to support Ukraine’s military. But President Zelensky stated that promised ammunition from EU countries has not been delivered.
The joint conference was interrupted by the sounding of air raid sirens.
– This is (Russia’s) real approach to peace, Zelensky said.
