One player was very lucky and found a gaming PC in the trash around the corner. And the built-in hardware is surprisingly good. So good that some people wonder why the device ended up in the trash.

What hardware is in the computer found? The user shares several images on Reddit and writes the specific specifications of the individual components:

  • CPU: Intel i9-9900k
  • GPU: RTX 2070 Ti
  • RAM: 16GB, Corsair Vengeance Pro 4000MHz
  • Cooler: Noctua D15
  • Motherboard: MSI z390 A Pro.
  • Power supply: Seasonic Prime TX-850, 80+ Titanium

    • At first glance, the hardware is already several years old. The Intel CPU was released at the end of 2018, the RTX 2070 Ti was also released at the end of 2018. But even though some of the hardware is already 6 years old, the components are still powerful enough to be used for gaming.

    The player himself adds that the PC should even be an upgrade compared to his old PC. The processor, RAM and power supply are sometimes significantly better, but the graphics card is worse than his old one. The finder has installed an RTX 3090 here – at least if the components that the user shared are correct. He himself writes:

    Honestly most of the parts are better than what I have in my current system. It’s just crazy what people throw in the trash.

    Why do people throw away such hardware? We can only speculate about that.

  • Some suspect that “nasty” parents may have wanted to punish their child and put the computer in the trash.
  • Another adds that a friend always checks the dumpsters in college towns. Many rich students throw away their electronics because they don’t feel like shipping them back.
  • A third jokes: If a different power supply had been installed, it could have been his old PC that his wife put in the trash.

    Sometimes it’s really surprising which hardware and devices end up in the trash: For example, a gamer built a gaming PC using only hardware from a dumpster because some really good stuff ended up in the trash.

    Is it worth playing with old hardware? Basically, even old hardware is often powerful enough to work with or play games with. From today’s perspective, an old RTX 2070 Ti in particular still offers enough performance and even supports features such as DLSS.

    However, with very old components the benefit quickly ceases. Upgrading very old components is also rarely worthwhile and there are good reasons for this:
