The ‘tattoo killers’ and the murder of Onno Kuut
Kuut’s murder was committed in 2009. All suspects have the same tattoo of black Chinese characters from top to bottom across their backs. “Be decisive,” it says loosely. Cor P. is seen as the brutal leader of this professional murder squad that shocked the Netherlands.
Cor P. and his brothers also have Chinese characters on their arms that supposedly stand for ‘brotherhood of murderers’. From then on, their supposed murder brigade was nicknamed ‘the tattoo killers’. A photo distributed by law enforcement in which three tattoo killers at a shooting range show their decorated backs, each with a gun raised in their right hand, becomes an iconic image.
Kuut was also a ‘tattoo killer’, according to the well-known Chinese characters on his back. Life sentences were imposed on all four suspects. They were acquitted, but P. cut his ankle monitor before hearing the verdict and fled the Netherlands. The Public Prosecution Service has appealed. When P. was shot in the Dominican Republic in early 2022, the Dutch authorities were able to arrest him. P. is now in jail awaiting the appeal in that case in which the Public Prosecution Service demanded a life sentence against him.
