A pleasant surprise was experienced at the Formula 1 Miami gp, when McLaren’s Lando Norris brought the first gp victory of his career to the British team for a long time in the first place in the royal class of motor sports.
McLaren’s Lando Norris, 24, won the Formula 1 Miami GP. The victory is Norris’s first in his F1 career after eight second places, and the first for the McLaren team since then Daniel Ricciardo first place at Monza in 2021 and only the second in the last 12 years.
– We did it! We did it! I love you all, thank you so much, Norris yelled into the team radio as he crossed the finish line.
Norris said he knew he was going to win in Miami when he got on the track.
– It was about time, I finally did it! I’m so happy. I knew it when I got here this morning. And that’s how it happened, beamed Norris and thanked his mother and father right away in the first interview.
Norris won F1 this season as well, with Red Bull dominating and leading the World Championship points Max Verstappen’s by more than seven seconds. The Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc was third and Carlos Sainz fourth.
– Sometimes you win it and sometimes you lose it. The car didn’t work the way I wanted it to today. If a bad day brings second place, I’ll take it. The Medium tires were quite difficult today, they didn’t feel fantastic. When we made the pit stop, I heard the lap times of the McLarens and I thought, they are fast, Verstappen chatted and was genuinely happy that Lando Norris was “flying” on the track.
Bottas is looking forward to upgrading to Sauber
Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas was 16th in Miami and continues the season without WC points.
After the start, Bottas dropped three places to 19th. Sauber’s tactics with soft tires didn’t work, and Bottas went to the pits early on to change hard tires. He was last in the race at that point.
– We started with the soft ones and the goal was to move up a few places right away. The intention was also to stop at the very beginning, but we didn’t have time to change the tires first. The hard mix didn’t work after that, as thought. Mediums work best. Tough weekend. When there was only one practice, and if the adjustments are not right, it becomes difficult. Fortunately, an update is coming for the next race, sighed Bottas to V Sport.
The seventh round of the World Series Emilia Romagna (former San Marino gp) will be held on May 19 in northern Italy.
