World of Warcraft’s next expansion, The War Within, is currently being tested in alpha. Not all content is available yet and Blizzard is only gradually opening the new areas. But this also comes with big revelations in the story. The finale of the newest area deals with the future of Anduin Wrynn…

What was discovered? In the alpha of The War Within, the main story of the new area Heilfall (“Hallowfall”) is already fully playable. As usual, there are no cutscenes in the game yet, but there is a short description of what will be seen in the sequence so that you can continue to follow the story.
It also deals with the fate of Anduin Wrynn, who will probably be taken prisoner again.
In Heilsfall, much of the story revolves around the fight against the Nerubians. They repeatedly attack on behalf of Xal’atath and try to defeat the Arathi and other residents.
The final series of quests leads to a final major battle, some of which is fought on an Arathi airship.
The description of the Anduin is Lost cutscene is as follows:
Faerin, Alleria and the hero climb the ladder to the ship, only to see that Anduin has been left behind.
Anduin sees the Nerubians preparing a ballista that would bring down the ship.
He finds his resolve and jumps into battle to stop them.
Faerin, Alleria and the hero watch in horror as Anduin is surrounded by the horde of Nerubians.
After that there is no trace of Anduin. He was apparently captured and taken to Xal’atath.
Where is Anduin currently? At this time, Anduin’s whereabouts are unknown. After the events of Shadowlands, he is on a journey of self-discovery and will probably not really appear again until patch 11.0, the pre-patch of The War Within. Because then the cinematic plays where Thrall meets Anduin.
The whole thing is a little strange because further parallels can be found between Anduin and his father Varian. Varian also once bravely threw himself into an army of Finds, namely during the opening scenario of the “Legion” expansion. This subsequently led to the death of Varian and thus directly to Anduin having to take the throne.
The fact that Anduin Heilfall shows the same heroism as his father could indicate a similar fate, but it is probably too early to say for sure.
Or to quote the very apt summary from wowhead:
“After all, he’s already used to being captured and kidnapped by an evil purple woman with the body of a dead elf. If Xal’atath spends time with him, there’s at least a 5% chance he’ll make them reconsider their methods by the end of the expansion.”
That’s perhaps a little bit cynical, but still quite fitting. After all, Anduin had already been kidnapped during Shadowlands and was then in the power of Sylvanas. Xal’atath, who is visually and morally very similar, is almost like an old acquaintance for him…
