Items stolen in break-ins, man faces assault with weapon charge
A Norfolk resident is out $7,500 after being victimized by an emergency scam.

Norfolk OPP say the victim received a phone call on Monday afternoon from someone claiming to be a family member. The caller said they’d been in a collision and needed money.

Later, say police, someone claiming to be the family member’s lawyer joined the call and advised that several thousand dollars was required so their client could be released from jail.
Police say the victim e-transferred about $7,500 to a bank account, as directed.
Later, the victim’s family member contacted the victim to confirm they hadn’t been in a collision. The victim then called the police.
Police warn residents to be highly vigilant when receiving unsolicited communication, including calls, texts, emails, and faxes, or unexpected visitors to their homes. Anyone receiving such communication should not send money but contact immediate family members to verify if anyone genuinely needs help, say police.

Police seek public’s help after break-ins
Norfolk OPP are asking for the public’s help to find those responsible for two recent break-ins.
At about 7:15 am on Monday, police received a report of a break-and-enter at a business on Albert Street in Langton. It was determined that sometime between 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 27 and 6:45 am on Monday, April 29, one or more intruders forcibly entered and stole portable speakers, Canadian currency, and consumable goods.
At about 10 am on Monday, police investigated a break-in on Front Road in St. Williams. It was determined that sometime between 4 am and 10:10 am, one or more intruders entered a garage where they stole a UTV, tools and other items.

The UTV is a green and black 2017 Honda S55.

Norfolk resident faces charges after argument in vehicle
A 24-year-old Norfolk County man is facing several charges after an argument in a vehicle.
Just after midnight on Thursday, police investigated a reported assault on Queensway West in Simcoe. They say one person received minor injuries and the vehicle was damaged.
The accused is charged with assault; assault with a weapon; uttering threats — cause death or bodily harm; fail to comply with probation order; and mischief under $5,000.
