According to students and colleagues, a researcher at Malmö University has praised Russia, Iran and the Taliban.
Now the person receives SEK 728,000 – to stop working at the university, reports Sydsvenskan.
Earlier this year, Sydsvenskan revealed how a researcher at Malmö University allegedly praised Russia, the Islamist dictatorship in Iran and the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. Now the researcher, who according to the newspaper is very experienced, is being bought out by the university.
Among other things, the researcher is said to have said that Russia is not bombing Ukrainian civilian targets, but that Ukraine is attacking Russian targets. The person also attended an annual conference in the Islamist dictatorship of Iran in the spring of 2023 against the wishes of the university.
“Being the best for everyone”
Malmö University’s personnel responsibility committee (PAN) has investigated the case but has not reached a decision. Instead, the parties involved have now agreed on a sum of money for the researcher to end his service: SEK 728,000, which corresponds to 16 monthly salaries.
– This will be best for everyone involved. Otherwise, it risks becoming a long process, says Kerstin Tham, rector at Malmö University, to Sydsvenskan.
