Giveaway: Goebbels’ house

Villa Bogensee, named after the lake on which it is located, is located four miles north of Berlin. The property was used by Goebbels as a sort of refuge from everyday life with his wife and six children in the capital. It is also rumored that he used the house for affairs with various women.

Goebbels, one of Adolf Hitler’s closest men, had the villa built in 1939 and lived there on and off until the days before the end of the war in 1945, when he committed suicide together with his wife in a bunker in Berlin.

The house has not been used since 2000 and has now started to fall into disrepair. It is owned by the state of Berlin, which over the years has tried in vain to transfer ownership to the state or state of Brandenburg, where the property is located, in order to avoid maintenance and guarding costs. Now it is threatened with demolition.

– If we fail again, as in recent decades, Berlin has no other choice but demolition, says Berlin’s Finance Minister Stefan Evers.
