The controversial French far-right politician Éric Zemmour was egged during a visit to the island of Corsica, according to AFP’s reporter on the spot.
Zemmour was on Saturday at a market in the city of Ajaccio for electoral work ahead of June’s European Parliament elections, when protesters appeared.
“Water and eggs were thrown at him and a woman tried to push him,” a police source told AFP.
In video footage from the occasion, it looks like Zemmour punches a woman. However, a person in the politician’s company says that his reaction was a “pure self-defense reflex”.
Zemmour is convicted multiple times of inciting racial hatred.
