Silja Kosonen, 21, downloads tough goals: European championship and Olympic medal | Sport

Silja Kosonen won the junior EC gold with a jump

Shot putter Silja Kosonen opened her athletics summer perfectly and took second place in the European statistics.

A shot putter who finished fifth in last year’s World Championships Silja Kosonen, 21, had a great start to his competitive summer. The young Finnish star scored his best 72.56 in Tammela in his fourth, which puts him second in this year’s European statistics.

The number one in the European statistics is Romania, defending its EC victory from two years ago Bianca Ghelber with a result of 74.06.

Kosonen’s series was promising: 70.95, 71.02, 69.50, 72.56, 67.87, 71.60. His record is 74.19, set at last year’s World Championships.

Even though the season is at the beginning, Kosonen’s results are at a good level at this point, a month before the European Championships in Rome. Many of the tough European throwers of recent years have already opened their seasons throwing less than Koso.

– I had good feelings. There were several good results and the technique was good. I am satisfied, it has a heavy training load behind it.

Kosonen will compete next week in Vantaa, from where the trip continues to the United States for two races.

In addition to Rome, Kosonen’s goal is the Paris Olympics held in July-August. He was already at the Olympics three years ago at the age of 18, when he just missed out on a place in the finals.

Kosonen, who is used to success in youth competitions, is not afraid to announce tough goals.

– I want to win the EC gold. There’s grit for that. You can also aim for a medal at the Olympics.

The runner-up in the competition was Krista Tervo after throwing 69.36 in the last. Two years ago, he was eighth in the European Championship and also competed in the World Championship final.
