More than 700 migrants arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday May 2. This is a record since the start of the year, despite the British government’s desire to stop boat crossings from Europe.

The threat, now very real, of a one-way trip to Rwanda don’t stop them: 711 migrants, boarded 14 boats, risked their lives on Wednesday to cross the Channel. Just two weeks ago, more than 500 people had already made the same journey.

Stopping the passage of migrants is one of the priorities of the conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. A new law will allow his government to exile thousands of people to Rwanda. Evictions are expected to begin in nine to eleven weeks.

And operations to round up migrants before their departure have begun. Not without difficulty. Around thirty activists tried to block a bus in London which was going to a reception center for migrants on a barge in Dorset.

Other mobilizations took place elsewhere in the country. Some migrants have already preferred to take refuge in Ireland to avoid being arrested and sent into exile in Rwanda.
