NGH, WHGH appoint new president, CEO

NGH WHGH appoint new president CEO

Todd Stepanuik currently heads Middlesex Hospital Alliance

A new president and CEO has been appointed to head up Norfolk General Hospital in Simcoe and West Haldimand General Hospital in Hagersville.

He is Todd Stepanuik. Stepanuik’s appointment is effective July 11. He replaces Lucy Bonanno, who departed the position last year without explanation.

“I am extremely humbled, honored and excited to be joining the NGH, WHGH and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home family,” Stepanuik said Monday in a news release.

“I very much look forward to helping author the next chapter in the proud history of the organizations and to adding to the tremendous caring legacy. I also look forward to further advancing the mission of the organization in collaboration with the board, leadership team, staff, medical staff, and volunteers.”

The hospitals say Stepanuik was tapped following “an extensive and rigorous executive search.” He is the current president and CEO of the Middlesex Hospital Alliance in Strathroy, a position he has held for the past nine years.

“We look forward to having Todd’s experience and expertise propel us further toward our vision to be an inspiring model of what an exceptional health-care experience should be,” Marjorie Dawson, chair of the NGH board of directors, said. “Todd’s depth of experience, servant-leadership style, passion, and enthusiasm, as well as his ability to forge stakeholder relations, will be instrumental in charting the course for us.”

Stepanuik is a certified health-care executive with a degree in hospital and business administration.

Stepanuik is immediate past president and chair of the Canadian chapter of the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE) and was recognized in 2020 with a service award for his commitment to health-care management. Stepanuik was also the recipient in 2021 of ACHE’s Executive of the Year award. Stepanuik has more than 30 years experience in health care in a leadership capacity.

“Todd is a proven collaborative leader and an excellent choice to lead NGH and WHGH as we work with our partners to improve access to care for the communities we serve,” said David Skye, chair of the WHGH board of directors. “Todd’s experience and his unique skill-set will help lead our organizations as we aim to provide the best care, for more people, close to home.”

Following Bonanno’s departure, Kim Mullins was appointed interim president and CEO of NGH and WHGH last August. Monday’s news release says Mullins leadership was instrumental in guiding the hospitals through the most recent phase of the COVID-19 pandemic while “charting our road to post-pandemic recovery.”
