Renault’s already well-stocked SUV range is enriched with a new model: the Symbioz. Versatile and compact, the newborn from the diamond brand will have to make a name for itself in a very competitive segment.
It is not called Grand Captur but Symbioz, nevertheless the new Renault model, presented this Thursday, May 2, 2024, is indeed the big brother of the Captur which received a facelift last month with an in-depth restyling. The newborn from the diamond brand is therefore a new SUV and it will have to find a place between the Arkana (doomed to disappear), the Captur, the Austral and the Scénic. The French manufacturer, comforted by a very good start to the year, describes its new car as “attractive, practical, compact, economical and equipped with useful technologies”. The Symbioz benefits from the latest developments from Renault, both in terms of design and equipment, and displays a natural connection with the Captur. Let’s go and discover this SUV which will arrive on our roads before the end of the year.
The main information
- The Renault Symbioz reinforces the brand’s already well-stocked range in the C segment. Measured at 4m41, the SUV slots between the Captur (4m23) and the Scenic (4m47) while approaching the size of the ‘Austral (4.51 m) and Arkana (4.56 m). Its weight, around 1,400 kilos, allows it to escape the ecological penalty.
- Unsurprisingly, the front of the Symbioz looks exactly like that of the new Captur, like it mounted on the platform (CMF-B). Optics, grille, shield, air intakes, Renault logo, the design is similar except for the patterns on the grille with 3D effects and the shape of the ribs on the hood.
- The rear of the Symbioz, however, differs from that of the Captur and is similar to that of the Scenic, with a more vertical cut. However, it stands out with new, rather discreet, square-shaped optical units (boomerang-shaped on the Scenic). The brand’s new diamond logo is inserted in the center of the tailgate, which is motorized and controllable from inside the vehicle, the hands-free card or by a simple gesture of the foot under the shield.
- The Renault Symbioz will be available in seven colors including the new exclusive Mercury Blue shade. The six other colors will be Pearly White, Cassiopeia Gray, Starry Black, Rafale Gray, Iron Blue and Flame Red, the latter being the only one offered for free.
- Inside, the dashboard is that of the Renault Captur, quite refined, with the 10.3-inch digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel and the vertical, 10.4-inch touch screen, standard on the Symbioz. The multimedia part benefits from the OpenR Link system and in terms of safety the SUV is equipped with no less than 29 driving aids in the high-end Iconic finish. Finally, unlike the Captur, the Symbioz can benefit as an option (1,500 euros) from the Solarbay opacifying panoramic roof seen on the Rafale and the Scenic.
The engines of the Renault Symbioz
The first buyers of the Symbioz will inevitably have been seduced by the full hybrid since it is the only engine that will be available at its launch. The crossover will be powered by a 94-horsepower 1.6 four-cylinder engine and a 49-horsepower electric motor powered by a 1.2 kWh battery, all for a power of 145 horsepower. Renault promises a range of more than 1,000 kilometers and promising WLTP combined consumption of only 4.6 liters per 100 kilometers.
Furthermore, and this is new, the manufacturer has added an “e-Save” command which requires the vehicle to maintain a minimum of 40% battery. Other engines were to be added to the catalog subsequently, certainly with mild hybridization or even gasoline-LPG dual fueling. 100% electric, however, should be excluded, remaining for the moment the prerogative of the Megane and the Scenic at Renault.
When will Renault’s new SUV be released?
You will not have to wait very long before you can place an order to acquire the Renault Symbioz. Customers will be able to order the all-new SUV from June, while the first arrivals in dealerships are expected at the start of the next school year.
What will the price of the Renault Symbioz be?
It is when orders open in June that the diamond brand will communicate the prices of Symbioz. Available only in full hybrid for the moment, the SUV will be available in three finishes: Techno, Esprit Alpine and Iconiq. According to an indiscretion from largus.fr, Renault is marketing its new model 3,000 to 3,500 euros more expensive than the new Captur, which starts at 28,900 euros in full hybrid. We can therefore expect a price around 32,500 euros at entry level. For comparison, the new Dacia Duster, which will undoubtedly be the Symbioz’s No. 1 rival, is available from 28,100 euros with the hybrid engine.
