Colombia is to cut diplomatic ties with Israel on Thursday. This was announced by the country’s president, Gustavo Petro, in a speech during a May Day demonstration in the capital Bogotá.
He accuses Israel’s leaders of being responsible for genocide.
Gustavo Petro has several times been very critical of Israel because of the war in Gaza.
Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz, for his part, accuses the Colombian president of having promised to “reward” terrorist-branded Hamas “murderers and rapists”, and says that Petro succeeded in doing so.
