Hellboy director denies unpleasant rumors regarding his hotly anticipated fantasy

Hellboy fans have had a real roller coaster ride – at least when it comes to cinema adaptations. After Guillermo del Toro delivered his two films Hellboy and Hellboy II – The Golden Army, the reboot Hellboy – Call of Darkness fell short of expectations for many fans and only scored 5.2 points in the Moviepilot community .

Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance director Brian Taylor is currently busy with another remake called Hellboy: The Crooked Man, which is in doubt Rumors regarding the effects and the look that the filmmaker didn’t want to leave alone.

Hellboy from the computer? Director denies AI reports

During this year’s Berlinale, a Motion Picture Association panel discussion took place where Jonathan Yunger from Millennium Films spoke about the possibilities of AI. He wasn’t a fan of AI until it came to filming a demon that only looked better after being improved by the artificially intelligent computer. The panel article claimed this was in reference to an upcoming Hellboy film. But is it?

Director Brian Taylor now makes it clear on X (formerly Twitter):

To be clear: it was exactly zero AI applied to our Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Both characters – Hellboy and the Crooked Man – were 100 percent gloriously practically created and shot the way the movie gods wanted, with no CGI enhancement… and it looks great.

As Taylor further explains, the producer of his Hellboy was misquoted. The AI comments would have referred to another film called The Offering. He also jokingly toyed with the idea that perhaps the MPA article was written using AI. Touché!

What is the fantasy reboot Hellboy: The Crooked Man about?

The film is based on the Dark Horse comics by author Mike Mignola and takes place in the 1950s. The demonic agent of the paranormal investigation agency BPRD sets off for remote areas of the Appalachian Mountains, where a small community is haunted by witches. They are led by a sinister figure from Hellboy’s past.

This time the hellish leading role is played by Jack Kesy, who is in front of the camera with people like Jefferson White as Tom Ferrell, Adeline Rudolph as Bobbie Jo Song and Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts. Martin Bassindale plays Professor Broom, the founder of the BPRD, and also the titular Crooked Man.

When is Hellboy: The Crooked Man coming to theaters?

The new Hellboy flick doesn’t have an official release date yet. The MPA article talked about this year, but it doesn’t seem quite as trustworthy anymore.
