Artus took his first steps in directing with the comedy “Un p’tit truc en plus”, which deals with the issue of disability and difference. Should you go see this film in theaters this Wednesday?

Among the cinema releases this Wednesday 1er May, spectators will be able to be tempted by a new French comedy. The actor Artus is now launching into directing with A little something extra. This comedy follows a father and son on the run who take refuge in a summer camp for young adults with disabilities. To avoid being spotted, they pretend to be a resident and his specialized educator.

On paper, A little something extra could be border. But the critics were taken in by this comedy according to the first published opinions. For FirstArtus “found the perfect tone – inflated but never provocative” by mastering “the writing of his characters with disabilities and situations where we laugh a lot not at them but with them.”

For Le Figaroit is an “endearing and joyful eulogy of difference” in the guise of a “tender choral comedy” which “carries without sentimentality its message of tolerance and acceptance of difference”. South West deplores, however, that the film “accumulates clichés”, noting however the “good intentions” of the director and actor, who notably cast amateur actors themselves suffering from mental disabilities. A little something extra can be seen at the cinema this Wednesday.
