The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has changed the cinematic landscape forever. Instead of releasing a simple series with sequels, an entire universe was created that was connected. You can see two absolute highlights from it in the form of Marvel’s The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy on TV today back to back.
That’s what Marvel’s: The Avengers, the best MCU film, is all about
Thor’s brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is causing trouble again and is threatening Earth with a real alien invasion. Luckily, there are the Avengers, a group of the best and most famous superheroes, who could help. But Captain America, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hulk, Thor and Iron Man as well as Hawkeye have to get theirs first Bridging differences before they can save the world.
This is the story of Guardians of the Galaxy, also the best MCU film
Far from Earth, we are dealing with a completely different group. It’s not any less colorfully thrown together, but consists mainly of aliens, like the warrior Gamora (Zoe Saldana), space raccoon Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), tree buddy Groot and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista).
They are led by the dazzling Star Lord aka Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and of course a dark threat must be averted here too, initially in the form of Ronan the Accuser, a real destroyer of worlds.

Why should these be the best MCU films?
Quite simple: If we look at the list of the best superhero films – sorted by Moviepilot ratings – watch, Guardians of the Galaxy is in third place. Before that comes only The Dark Knight and Batman Begins, followed directly by Marvel’s The Avengers. When it comes to ranking all MCU films, something very similar comes out, at least in terms of number 1.
While the Avengers focused on a groundbreaking, almost revolutionary event character that took popcorn cinema spectacles and crossovers to a new level, Guardians of the Galaxy succeeded brilliantly, introducing a completely new group of heroes in the most likeable way to introduce. It doesn’t get any more entertaining in the MCU You won’t hear a better soundtrack than in GotG almost anywhere.
TV or stream: When and where are Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers coming?
RTL is showing Guardians of the Galaxy at prime time this Wednesday, May 1st from 8:15 p.m. Marvel’s Avengers will be shown immediately afterwards from 10:25 p.m. Actually the order is nonsense, you should watch it the other way around chronologically, but fortunately that hardly plays a role in terms of content.
If you don’t feel like watching linear TV, you can of course also stream online: you’ll find both GotG and Avengers with Disney+ as a subscription and as part of the streaming flat rate. Both films can also be bought or rented on Apple TV, Amazon and elsewhere.
